BMT Cordah’s ‘edutain@grid Virtual Classroom’ (EVC) is the e-learning pilot ROIA. EVC allows a remote instructor to train students in the use of any software application, although it is primarily designed for training in maritime Search and Rescue. EVC captures the actions that the instructor is making on the software and broadcasts them to all students: usually through the main panel of EVC. At the same time, students can see and hear the instructor via video/voice link in a separate panel.

Students can interact with one another and the instructor via text chat. What makes EVC more powerful is that selected students can be granted permission for their keystrokes and mouse events to be sent to the instructor and control the software on which they’re training. They and their fellow students then see what is happening as the display continues to be shared across the students.
